How to Clean Your Kids' Dirty Backpack

We're all familiar with it: that shiny and pristine backpack that slowly loses its luster after a few months of bus rides, hallway drags, and playground escapades. If it's still in decent shape but covered in mysterious stains, don't worry – there's good news. You can definitely clean your kid's backpack and even make it look like new again. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to effectively clean, disinfect, and refresh that backpack!

**Machine Washing Your Backpack**

In most cases, you can toss the backpack into the washing machine (unless it's made of leather or contains leather/suede accents, in which case you should opt for hand-washing). Use a gentle cycle and your regular laundry detergent, but avoid using excessive detergent. Here's the trick: place the backpack inside a pillowcase or washable laundry bag. Make sure to tie the pillowcase at the top securely. Prior to machine-washing, make sure to spot-clean any tough mystery stains .

Allow it to air dry. Open all pockets and compartments to ensure thorough drying.

Avoid putting it in the dryer, as this could lead to unexpected outcomes.

Tip: Empty backpack of any paper, broken pencils, cookie crumbs, fidget spinners, irregular erasers, or any other mysterious items.

**Hand-Washing Your Backpack**

Fill a tub or sink with lukewarm water and add mild soap or detergent directly to the water. Before immersing the backpack, ensure it's fully cleaned and treat any tough spots.

If you have a backpack with a suede or leather bottom, skip the detergent in this method.

Submerge the bag in the water and gently agitate it to help clean it. Utilize an old toothbrush to scrub zippers, mesh sections, and embroidered threads.

After washing, drain the soapy water and refill with clean water for rinsing.

Soak the backpack briefly in clean water and then squeeze out excess water.

Allow it to air dry.

**Spot Cleaning & Disinfecting**

Mix a small amount of detergent with water and use a clean sponge for spot cleaning.

Utilize an old toothbrush to scrub zippers, mesh areas, and embroidered threads.

For stubborn stains, consider using a spot-cleaning stick or stain remover.

Avoid letting the detergent or stain remover mixture dry before rinsing it off with clean water, or follow one of the aforementioned methods to wash the bag.

By following these instructions, you'll be able to give your child's backpack a thorough and effective cleaning, ensuring it stays fresh and ready for more adventures.
